Michael has been the Chief Executive Officer of First State Super since 2004.
On 30 June 2011, First State Super and Victorian-based fund Health Super formally announced their merger and Michael was appointed CEO of the merged group. The new merged First State Super Fund is now the third largest superannuation fund in Australia, with some 750,000 members and around $37 billion under management.
Michael has extensive experience in the superannuation industry having worked in a number of senior positions including the role of General Manager and Fund Secretary of one of Australia's larger industry superannuation funds and has also gained experience as Company Secretary of a Corporate Trustee. Michael is a Director of the Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia (ASFA) and Fund Executives Association Ltd (FEAL).
Michael was presented with the FEAL Fund Executive of the Year Award in 2012.
In 2011, Michael was made a Member of the Order of Australia for services to superannuation and the UN's refugee agency, UNHCR in the Queen's Birthday Honours List.
