Professor Rodney Maddock was Executive General Manager in charge of Group Strategy for the Commonwealth Bank of Australia from 2005 until he retired in 2012.

Since returning to academic roles at Monash and Victoria Universities, he has mainly been working on finance: on funding Australia's future, on the size of the financial sector, on competition in and the regulation of finance, and on infrastructure finance.

Rod has a broad view of the Australian economy having earlier been Chief Economist for the Business Council of Australia and having written influential books Unlocking the Infrastructure and The Australian Economy in the Long Run.

He is working on a new book tentatively called Not the Lucky Country (or Its not Luck Mate) which explains Australia's long term economic success in terms of our culture and institutions rather than our resource base.
