In 1983, Tony joined the Commonwealth Bank of Australia and spent five years in the Treasury dealing room in various capacities. His dealing / management experience encompassed the domestic and foreign exchange retail and medium business sales teams, as well as the interbank cash and securities trading teams. Tony also spent one year with the interbank currency forwards team, principally trading Australian / US dollar exposures, while gaining experience in other foreign exchange trading activities.
In April 1988, Tony joined Commonwealth Investment Management as Senior Money Market Dealer and in September 1989 he was appointed Investment Manager for all short term investment mandates along with an external wholesale fixed interest investment mandate. Through the early nineties, Tony assumed responsibility for the management of all New Zealand Cash and Fixed Interest portfolio mandates after the CBA partial acquisition of ASB Auckland Savings Bank), while retaining responsibility for all AUD short term mandates.
By late 2001, Tony's responsibilities encompassed portfolios amounting to in excess of AUD $12.0 billion. Tony joined Colonial First State in March 2002 as a result of the merger of Commonwealth Investment Management and Colonial First State. At this time he assumed his existing role and is currently responsible for the management, development and implementation of strategies for mandates totalling in excess of AUD $36.0 billion. Tony is assisted by a team of four Portfolio Managers.
In 2003, Tony was appointed as a Trustee Director of the Commonwealth Bank Officers Superannuation Corporation which currently controls assets in excess of AUD $6.0 billion of superannuation Funds with 50,000 members.
